BSNL likely to turn down TRAI’s proposal to share its dark fibre network

October 22, 2013

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is likely to turn down the Telecom Regulatory Authority’s (TRAI) proposal to share its dark or ‘unused’ fibre-based network with private telecom operators in the Northeast region. The operator has stated that it will require additional bandwidth for expanding its own telecom network in the region and thus, sharing the infrastructure is not suitable.

Earlier, TRAI had recommended that BSNL and the national power distribution company, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited should share their surplus dark fibre assets with private telecom service providers for enhancing the overall telecom connectivity in far flung regions of the country.
